Cafe Manager

Sunbird is seeking a full-time Cafe Manger to join our service team. This individual is well-organized, highly motivated, loves fast-paced problem-solving, and creating exceptional customer experiences. 

Our Cafe Manager is a natural collaborator with excellent written and communication skills. They can read a room quickly, and see what others don't see. They know how to excite and engage others to help bring about the best outcomes for the business, our guests, and our flock. They are proactive, thoughtful and kind — even when firm resolve is needed. Alongside Sunbird's ownership group, our Cafe Manager will help train, guide and inspire our team, while caring for our customers at every opportunity. 

Responsibilities

  • Model and support a culture of thoughtful leadership with relentless care and positivity

  • Effectively manage a team of 5-10 employees without oversight

  • Ensure exceptional customer service is the first priority of all cafe staff at all times

  • Motivate and inspire our team to see more and be more

  • When managing — questioning and confirming everything, while assuming nothing

  • Solve problems and resolve customer and staff conflicts or contention

  • Hiring / Releasing staff as needed 

  • Work various FOH stations as needed — counter/register, barista, food runner, even dishes if needed

  • Training / Staff development / Staff education — customer service, product knowledge, food/drink prep and assembly, enrichment events

  • Help lead our coffee & beverage program - ordering product, maintaining high standards, planning and implementing seasonal changes

  • Product quality/freshness control and oversight

  • Proactive cleaning and organizing of FOH refrigeration, storage, dining room, etc.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of cafe and/or restaurant experience is required (management experience is preferred, but having the right personal attributes is far more desirable to us than experience alone)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • A positive outlook, genuine interest in learning, sharing, growing, and evolving with a highly collaborative team

  • Barista experience is strongly desired, but not required

  • A propensity for mentoring, teaching and guiding others is essential

  • Ability to stay calm and maintain a positive attitude when it's busy and/or challenging

  • A willingness to be adaptable, receptive, and constructive; taking direction and guidance from ownership

  • Comfortable sharing ideas and information with management, even when their view may be different

  • Ability to create and maintain a staff schedule

  • Comfortable with Mac-based systems, Google G-drive,  spreadsheets and word processing

  • Comfortable with POS software (Square experience preferred)

  • Familiarity with Adobe InDesign is desirable, but not required

  • Able to regularly work 8 or more hours with repeated walking, bending, stretching and occasional lifting of food products and supplies up to 30 pounds

Salary & Benefits

This is a paid, salaried position.

Salary is competitive, based on 40-50 hour work week.
